After picking up the lucky #7 number plate for the year,we headed to pre-ride the short and muddy 2010 Coulee Cruiser course. The course was muddy and snowy and looked barely ridable. Took off with the Expert field this time and got to the first barricade as the last rider. I am no time-trialist nor a climber but somehow I believed I can crank up the 5.4km long 7 switchbacks at Norquay around 14 minutes. Nope. I cannot. Not even close. I rode my 42×16 on the Kona Major One with road tires. The [...] First Elite finish since 2004. First race on a geared bike since 2005. First ever race with a killer mustache. The course seemed OK during pre ride but somehow got very hard on race day…I felt really-really slow during the race. I felt like I was barley making each climb. Finished a decent 5th but 20 minutes [...] My first 24 hour race. It is quite fun stuff. Lot of riders of all abilities. Had a good strong team race with Pat,Tim,Tom and Eddy and finished 2nd overall about 15 minutes after the Rundell Mountain boyz. And we all rode single speeds! The weekend did not start well for us. Our truck blew a spark plug right after we left our house on Saturday. After spending an hour trying to fix the unfixable we decided to pull the trailer back home with the remaining 7 cylinders and put all of our gear into our minivan. This will [...] There is a reason why rides call this race “Suffer Springs”. The climbs are steep,loose and looong. I have rode this course only a handful of times and it seemed hard but enjoyable on a regular training ride. I found out that the course is a whole different animal on race day. I [...] | |
